Brigadier General Hollingsworth was a Distinguished Military Graduate of Clemson University in 1978 and received his commission as Second Lieutenant of Infantry. He served in the U.S. Army until 31 May 2013 for a total of 35 years active duty. Some of his career highlights include Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and numerous assignments overseas.

His major awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star Medal (1OLC), the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (3 OLC), the Army Commendation Medal (4 OLC), the Army Achievement Medal, the

Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Gold Hourglass and M5 device, the Overseas Service Ribbon (6th Award), the Overseas Service Bar (8th Award), the Combat Action Badge, the Expert Infantryman Badge, the Ranger Tab, and the Master Parachutist Badge.

Brigadier General Hollingsworth joined the South Carolina State Guard on 19 NOV 2013 as the Chief Historian. Six months later, he was promoted to Chief of Operations. On 1 December 2018, Colonel Hollingsworth was again promoted to the position of Chief of Staff, where he has served until present.
