COLUMBIA, SC ~ The South Carolina legislature has designated the Month of May, 2019 as “South Carolina State Guard Month” in order to bring awareness about the important role this historic organization has played in the Palmetto State since 1670. As part of State Guard Month, the South Carolina Missions and Operations Support Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, has launched the “Boots on the Ground” fundraising campaign to raise much needed dollars to purchase equipment and expand training for the All-Volunteer force.
Since 1670, the all-volunteer historic South Carolina State Guard has had boots on the ground trained and ready to serve the when called upon. When we were needed to respond to hurricanes Joaquin, Harvey, Matthew, and Florence, our personnel were there to answer the call. In 2018 alone, the nearly 1000 members of the State Guard volunteered more than 90,000 hours protecting the lives and property of South Carolinians alongside federal, state, and local first responders.
From Search and Rescue Operations, Medical teams, Legal support, Engineering expertise, Chaplain and counseling services, to direct distribution of supplies and providing military funeral honors to our veterans, State Guard members are “Trained & Ready” to serve when called upon without pay.
May 2019 has been designated “South Carolina State Guard Month” by the South Carolina Legislature in order to bring awareness about the State Guard to the public and to help raise funds for essential training and to purchase equipment and other necessities that would otherwise be out-of-pocket expenses by our volunteers.

Boots Campaign FAQs
HOW LONG DOES THE BOOTS ON THE GROUND CAMPAIGN RUN AND HOW DOES IT WORK?
The campaign runs throughout May with a $350,000 fundraising goal. As #SCSGBoots participating location, you will be provided with a display advertising campaign as well as paper boots to offer to the public for a minimum donation of $1 (however, we will accept larger donations). Patrons can write their name or the name of a loved one on the boots, which can then be displayed prominently and proudly in your establishment throughout the month. At the conclusion of the campaign, we will pick up the remaining boots and all collected funds.
The boots are numbered. Each participating establishment will be provided with a display flyer outlining the “Boots on the Ground” campaign, a collection envelope and the desired number of boots. At the conclusion of the campaign, a State Guard member will pick up the envelope with collected funds, remaining boots and display material. For example, if the establishment is issued 100 boots and received donations for 60 boots, there should be 40 boots and a minimum of $60 in the envelope at pickup.
WHERE DO DONATIONS GO? Are Donations Tax Deductible?
All tax-deductible donations raised from this campaign will be placed in the South Carolina State Guard Missions & Operations Foundation 501(c)(3). The foundation supports the mission of the South Carolina State Guard and helps units and personnel purchase necessary equipment or obtaining training. For more information, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
