The 42nd Annual Cooper River Bridge Run is set to take place April 6, 2019 with an estimated 40,000 people attending this 10k run that begins in The Town of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina and crosses the Arthur Ravenel Bridge to finish in Explore Charleston (Charleston, SC).
The Cooper River Bridge Run is the best organized and best conducted 10-K race in the world. It includes world-class competition in a unique setting with unparalleled participant satisfaction. It broadens community cooperation and participation in healthy events throughout the year. The Cooper River Bridge Run serves as a model of health motivation for other communities throughout the world. Each year the South Carolina State Guard sends personnel to help with the smooth operation of this event. In 2019, more than 150 SCSG team members will be on-site in cooperation with race organizers, local law enforcement, elected officials, and the media.
This year, the SCSG will be holding its first ever Capability Exercise in conjunction with the Cooper Bridge Run. On April 5th, personnel from the 1st Civil Support Brigade, Provost Marshal, Medical, SARCOM, Engineering, and more will establish a command and training area at the National Guard Armory in Mt. Pleasant, SC (245 Mathis Ferry Rd Mt. Pleasant) to serve as a demonstration point for local and state elected officials, community and business leaders, VIPS, and other invited guests. Also, personnel from the 3rd Battalion will demonstrate the setup of the Western / Blue-Med Shelters and Business Development will roll-out Salamander to attendees.
Your participation is essential to to the success of this exercise. We need 150 members of the State Guard to sign-up to support the April 5th CAPEX and April 6th Bridge Run. This will be the most important opportunity outside of SCSG deployments to demonstrate the capabilities and effectiveness of the State Guard, so your participation will make a difference.
