COLUMBUA, SC: South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster and Assistant Adjutant General of South Carolina National Guard, Major General R. Van McCarty visited State Guard personnel at the Emergency Operations Center in Columbia  Saturday to discuss emergency response plans in the event a hurricane makes landfall in or near the South Carolina coast in the near future.

State Guard personnel under the command of MG Tom Mullikin have been conducting exercises and studying relief plans in the event the SCSG is activated.

On Saturday afternoon, Governor McMaster issued an executive order declaring a State of Emergency for the state of South Carolina during a press conference.

“We are preparing for the worst and hoping for the best,” Governor McMaster said.

The executive order enables all state agencies to coordinate resources in preparation of Florence.

MG Mullikin, has sent word to units of the State Guard to be on alert and says that SCSG personnel are trained and ready to respond and assist our communities if the need arises.
