Point-of-Distribution (PODS) / Emergency Readiness
The South Carolina State Guard is here to assist the citizens of South Carolina in both civil events and during times of emergencies. Our Soldiers are able to set up, staff, and operate the Point-of-Distribution (PODS) and Emergency Shelters, anywhere in the state, within 24-hours of being designated a site of operation. A Point of Distribution, or POD, is where the public goes to pick up emergency supplies following a disaster. The need for a POD is based on lack of infrastructure to support normal distribution of food, water, or other supplies. Units of the SCSG train for such emergencies and are ready willing and able to get the job done if the need arises.
